What is the typesetting order of the four-fold organ fold?
As a designer or marketing professional, you're probably familiar with the traditional three-fold brochure design. However, there is one type of fold-out brochure design, and that is the quad-fold organ fold, that may present you with a whole new challenge. This folding method, like an organ, presents information in a personalized way and enhances the reader's interactive experience. Understanding the layout order is important for how to effectively and professionally perform the quad-fold organ fold design.
First, we need to conduct a sequential analysis of the electronic version of the typesetting design documents. With four folds, your organ fold design will contain eight separate panels. Given the natural reading order in which the reader opens the organ fold, you should design the front cover on the far left and the back cover on the far right. Then, from left to right, the information is arranged in order of importance or logical order on the remaining six panels. Make sure the reader understands your message or story at a glance.
Next, they'll open a linked page of four panels, which is your core area, and it's important to arrange the design elements in the order they're prompted to read. Typically, people start reading from the left panel and move gradually to the right, where you need to place key information on the left panel to draw attention. You can then elaborate on the middle panel. On the right panel, you can place conclusions or other important information.
After considering the reading order, you need to design it accordingly on the cardboard. On the printed layout, it presents two sets of four sequentially arranged panels. Just like the electronic design file, the front cover will be on the leftmost side of the first set, the back cover will be on the rightmost side of the first set, and the remaining two panels in the first set will be between the left front cover and the right back cover.
Then there is the production of printed samples. At this stage, it is important to have the text, images, and other design elements of each panel clearly marked on the sample. At the same time, always confirm the exact position of the fold line, in order to facilitate the precise positioning of subsequent folds.
Finally, it is folded into shape. The main challenge here is to make sure all the panels are aligned just right. To ensure that they present a consistent flow of information and visual effect as they unfold in the reader's hands.
